What is an ISA?

An ISA stands for individual savings account.  All adults in the UK over 18 are entitled to open an ISA account (over the age of 16 for a cash ISA), and will allow you to make savings throughout the financial year up to your personal allowance limit, with all returns exempt from income and capital gains tax.

There are several different types of ISA available: the most popular of these include cash ISAs, stocks and shares ISAs and Junior ISAs, although you may also be interested in Index Tracker ISAs and Fund ISAs.
